Louise and Cameron are from opposite sides of the world, literally. Louise was born in the Philippines and grew up in Florida, while Cameron, a tall, blonde, all-American type of guy, grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Deciding to get married in the Cameron’s native Portland was easy. Louise always envisioned getting married under the trees, near a babbling book — a very organic feel BUT she wanted an elegant spin on it.
Louise and Cam had their eyes set on Horning’s Hideout from the get-go. Located not far outside of Portland, this sprawling venue in the forested hills has several ceremony sites for couples to choose from. The creekside location hit all of their must haves: babbling brook, tall trees, grassy lawn, intimate space…. check, check, check.
Now on to the planning portion… I will always vividly remember Louise’s key words when describing her wedding vision “Vogue in the woods.” They wanted elegant, black tie, formal, chic, but for the event to be relaxed and comfortable for their intimate group of family and friends. The color palette was black, white, navy, and pops of red.
The vision for the ceremony was a creative whirlwind. We went back and forth and back and forth with Sarah from SELVA while working on the floral design. The asymmetrical floral install posts anchored the altar space, but didn’t take away from the surrounding trees. It was important not to block the view behind where they would stand. Another must have was a piano. “In the woods?” some might ask. Yes, in the woods. Louise fell in love with Clair de Lune some years ago and always envisioned herself walking down the aisle while it was being played… on piano (no other option would suffice). It didn’t take long to secure this must have…. they eventually bumped up from a standard piano to a baby grand piano. It was the PERFECT addition to this vogue wedding in the woods. Guests were stunned to see it tucked at the back of the ceremony, in a pocket under the trees. Meanwhile, we were thankful it didn’t rain.
After their gorgeous and extremely personal ceremony, guests walked up a trail to the reception space where they were greeted with fabulous cocktails by Mint & Mirth and scrumptious bites from White Pepper. Louise and Cameron are huge foodies so food was a major decision. As they say, “it was love at first bite with White Pepper.” They decided on an in-season, Oregon inspired menu that was served family style.
The weather changed on us last minute so we decided to go with our plan B weather option which was to tent the reception lawn. It wasn’t their original vision, but with some draping and cascading garlands, we knew it would tie together beautifully.
The pavilion space hosted the bar, a couple of curated lounge spaces, and the dance floor. Suspended chandeliers and beautiful florals folded this rustic space into their overall vision without breaking the bank.
Guests dined to an incredible meal under the romantic tent, lit by overhead string lights woven into the garlands, and lots of black taper candles that scattered the long tables. The mood was light and cheery, the drinks were flowing, the toasts were hilarious and touching, and the weather was PERFECT. Not a drop of rain all day (praise the heavens!).
Immediately following dinner, guests were invited to surround the dance floor where they were serenaded by one of Louise’s close friends while she sang their first dance. They later enjoyed several mini wedding cakes – several served to each table – before they danced the night away.
Their day was absolutely perfect with an incredible team who came together to execute their dream VOGUE wedding in the woods. To conclude the evening, Louise and Cameron joined their guests for an after party downtown…. and just as the busses pulled away, the rain skies opened up and the rain started coming down hard. It was as if the weather gods waited until the bus door closed up. Incredible.
